Ponchos!

It's that time of year when it won't be long until there's a Brr in the month, as we say in Ireland.
So we want to be able to cover up to keep warm and still look cool.
There has been a cape and poncho revival and they have once again become fashionable and can add an extra layer over a top or jacket to keep us  cozy and stylish over the cooler coming  months.

Layer, layer layer is the key to looking good in a poncho.
Wear with skinny trousers and a crossover bag to complete the look.
Here are some glamorous ponchos worn by some glamorous people.

Wear with a floppy hat  and leggings. Love this look.

Olivia Palermo wearing a Burberry poncho. The black thigh high boots makes this poncho ultra glamorous.

You could recreate a very similar style using this Rowan Pattern and some aran weight/worsted wool.

This Studio Donegal wool would work perfectly to make this poncho. It is made from 100% Irish wool, in a brilliant colour range and guaranteed to keep you cosy this winter.

Wear a poncho with a hood for extra warmth like in this gorgeous knitted one. Worn with flared jeans it has a Boho feel.

Again the Studio Donegal Aran weight/worsted Yarn could make this knitted poncho a reality.

Here is another one like this.

A tiny taste of crochet bags

A woman can never have enough bags and there are some amazing crochet bags out there.
I love a new bag but price can sometimes be an issue, like hundreds of euros worth of an issue for the really gorgeous designer ones, but they are a great source of inspiration when it comes to making one for yourself and can be a very enjoyable project,  mmmm!.
I'm no expert, but I'm willing to give it a go if I see something nice that makes my heart race. It does'nt always go to plan but I always learn something from the experience.
Today, I'd like to show you a small picture of my  favourites and links to help you make a really great bag.

Lets start with a classic Chanel clutch bag.
Serious bag love but way out of my budget.

The Chic and Unique range of handmade bags from V&R are to die for.
I just had to show you just for inspiration.

Love these and the colours are amazing.
Mainly worked in puff stitch with a double crochet stitch edge.

And here's Posh with her gorgeous black one

Now for the DIY bit!

You can make your own using cotton tape or strips of tee shirt yarn, its chunky and quick.
There are yarns you can buy which would work beautifully for these projects such as Hoooked Zpagetti
shown here. They have a great range of colours and lots of patterns to try on their website.

This grey bag comes in kit form from Hooked Zpagetti website, there are also lots of free patterns here.

This is a great site called SantaPazienzia. They have a YouTube channel full of video tutorials .
They have some great bags to try out.
These tutorials are on YouTube but  are not in English but the step by step instructions are easy to follow.

Festival Season means Festival Style

Music Festival season is here again, with Glastonbury happening next weekend and Coachella, California is already a memory now , but its style influence will set the trends for festival wear for 2016. I'm all about getting that designer festival look without spending designer prices and if you can make it yourself, all the better. It will be a unique piece created by you.  Here are some of the trends seen at Coachella which will hopefully give you some ideas for your festival look for Longitude and Electric Picnic to mention just a few happening here in Ireland this summer.
                       Retro 70's Inspiration
is one of the most popular trends on the catwalks this year, with Bohemian prints, florals and lots of crochet elements and they are ideal for outdoor festivals. Kendall Jenner wowed in a vintage crochet dress, crossbody bag and statement necklace.  You could make your own crochet dress using this fab pattern sold on Etsy. Etsy is an online craft marketplace where you can buy all things handmade and be inspired by other crafters.
                     Celebrity Style.

Victoria's Secret model Allessandria Ambrosio wearing vintage white crochet dress, which looks stunning on her. As you can see crochet is one of the big trends for festivals this summer.

You could make your own crochet dress using this fab pattern sold on Etsy. Etsy is an online craft marketplace where you can buy all things handmade and be inspired by other crafters.

If you made this dress using a neutral colour it would be a big hit!
Pattern also available on Etsy.

Inspiration only.

From
Free People.
Love their designs.

And Victorias Secret.

Love this granny square halter top worn by Vanessa Hudgens.

Simple but gorgeous and here is one for you to try for yourself.
Here is a pattern for the exact same top .

You can buy these tops ready made online from Etsy again.
The  images are good for inspiration.
Great ideas for colour combinations.

This FREE pattern from Drops Design will give you that gorgeous look, leave it white or  mix your colours as shown above.

Of course we do live in Ireland and the weather is not going to be Californian hot, so we need to have a stylish coverup  to see us through our cooler festival weather.
This crochet top looks great on Selena Gomez and is one you can recreate too.

Here is a  FREE pattern to make a similar type top to Selena's.
I know these projects take time but as you can see they don't date
and always seem to come back in vogue. So don't throw  any of these hand mades out they will soon be 'vinatge' just like Kendall's dress.

A gorgeous waistcoat to top off your outfit. There are lots of free patterns on this site.

Street Style.

Favourite festival goers outfits.

This Freebie Pattern from Drops Design will help you get this cool look.
You might just get this one finished in time for Electric Picnic.

That's enough for one post. I hope I have given you food for thought and a little inspiration too. Next time I will focus on Boho bags to complete your look and projects that can be done quickly.
Till then have fun.
